A Ramp Toward Recovery

6/25/2025

Woodville has called his 1920 home in Charleston home since 1988. Over the years, he’s built a life filled with memories and resilience, but more recently, life has brought new challenges. After experiencing a stroke, Woodville has been working hard to recover his strength and independence. Thankfully, he hasn’t had to do it alone. His kind neighbor has become a steady support, helping with rides to medical appointments and offering encouragement along the way.

One of Woodville’s most pressing needs was a safe way to get in and out of his home. His front porch was rotted in the center, and the steps were becoming too risky to navigate. With the help of a dedicated volunteer team from Jefferson, Ohio, Rebuilding Together Charleston stepped in to build a brand-new ramp and repair the failing porch.

But the repairs didn’t stop there.

During their weeklong stay, the volunteers also installed grab bars to make daily movement safer, repaired and cleaned out gutters to protect the home from water damage, installed a new ceiling fan to help with comfort and airflow, and widened a doorway to improve accessibility. Each task may seem small on its own, but together they’ve made a significant impact on Woodville’s safety and quality of life.
Woodville shared how grateful he is to everyone involved, especially The Daywood Foundation, for making these repairs possible. Their support helped fund this work, and he now has a safer, more comfortable place to continue healing.

Thanks to this incredible team and the generosity of partners like The Daywood Foundation, Woodville now has peace of mind and the freedom to live safely in the home he’s loved for decades.
